FPD Citizens Police Academy Applicaton
Frankfort Police Citizens Police Academy
The mission of the Frankfort Police Department Citizens Police Academy is to create and develop a growing nucleus of responsible, well-informed citizens who want to learn more about their police department. The Academy will be a nine-week program, followed by a graduation. The classes will be held on one evening a week (to be determined) from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Frankfort Police Department, 1740 W State Road 28. The classes will begin in February 2024. Each evening of instruction will cover a different aspect of the law enforcement profession.
The Frankfort Police Department Citizens Police Academy will be led by Officer Jacob Myers. Officer Myers attended the National Citizen’s Police Academy Association conference. He has also previously held an appointed position on the national board of directors. Frankfort area law enforcement personnel will present the instruction during the Citizen’s Police Academy with an occasional outside speaker. Some of the relevant topics that will be covered are the Criminal Code, Vehicle Code, DUI enforcement, Criminal Investigations, Diversity, Use of Force, K9, Patrol, Firearms, Virtual Reality training, and more. There will be hands-on training as well as simulated practical situations for the students to get a first-hand experience of law enforcement. The program allows ample time for questions and answers on all topics.
There will be a graduation dinner at the completion of the program and certificates issued to those who have met all requirements. Students must attend eight out of the nine weekly classes to successfully complete the program. There is no cost to students to participate in the Citizen’s Police Academy.
The academy is a free program for anyone 18 years of age or older that live and/or work in Frankfort. Applications for the Citizens Police Academy are due on December 31st.
