FPD Citizens Police Academy Applicaton
2024 Frankfort Police Citizen’s Police Academy
The mission of the Frankfort Police Department Citizen’s Police Academy is to create and develop a growing nucleus of responsible, well-informed citizens who want to learn more about their police department. The Academy will be a nine-week program, followed by a graduation. The classes will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the Frankfort Police Department located at 1740 W State Road 28. The classes will begin on January 16th, 2023. Each evening of instruction will cover different aspects of the law enforcement profession.
The Frankfort Police Department Citizen’s Police Academy will be led by Officer Jacob Meyers. Officer Myers has attended the National Citizen’s Police Academy Association conference and previously held an appointed position on the board of directors. Frankfort Police Department law enforcement personnel will present the instruction during the Citizen’s Police Academy with an occasional outside speaker. Some of the relevant topics that will be covered are: Criminal Code, Vehicle Code, OWI Enforcement, Criminal Investigations, Patrol Operations, Diversity, Use of Force, K9, Firearms, Virtual Reality Training, and more. There will be hands-on training as well as simulated practical situations for the students to get a first-hand experience of law enforcement. The program allows ample time for questions and answers on all topics.
There will be a graduation dinner at the completion of the program on March 19th, 2023 and certificates issued to those who have met all requirements. Students must attend eight out of the nine weekly classes to successfully complete the program. There is no cost to students to participate in the Citizen’s Police Academy.
The academy is a free program for anyone 18 years of age or older that live and/or work in Frankfort. Applications for the Citizens Police Academy are available online at the City of Frankfort website (link below). Applications are due on December 15th, 2023.
