BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS
August 24, 2020
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in a regular meeting on August 24, 2020, at 5:05 PM at the Frankfort Community Public Library, 208 W Clinton Street, Frankfort, Indiana. The meeting was also presented and attended via GoToMeeting.
Mayor Sheets called the meeting to order and led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance. Upon roll call, the following members were present: Mayor Judy Sheets and Megan Sheets. Greg Miller was absent. Also present were City Attorney Les Bergum, Clerk-Treasurer Carol Bartley, and others as noted in the minutes.
The minutes of the August 10, 2020, regular meeting were presented for approval. M. Sheets moved seconded by Mayor Sheets to approve the minutes of the August 10, 2020, regular meeting as presented. Upon roll call vote two ayes were recorded. Motion carried 2-0.
M. Sheets moved to accept the claims as presented. Mayor Sheets seconded. Upon roll call vote, two ayes were recorded. Motion carried 2-0.
Street Department Superintendent Jason Forsythe discussed with the board a request to change Doyal Street from a one-way street into a two-way street. Per Jason, this will require the removal of some signage and correction of road lines at a cost of approximately $200.00. The board will discuss it at the planning session on Wednesday tabled the discussion at this time.
Mr. Forsythe also advised the board that the milling work will start on Friday, August 24th in the northwest section of town.
M. Sheets made a motion to approve the permit for a party at the neighborhood center on September 6, 2020, as long as a police officer is hired for security. This request was originally presented at the previous board of works meeting Motion was seconded by Mayor Sheets. Upon roll call vote two ayes were recorded. Motion passed 2-0.
RESOLUTION 20-10 A RESOLUTION TO ADOPT A PAID PARENTING LEAVE POLICY AND TO PROVIDE PAID LEAVE FOR CERTAIN QUALIFIED CITY EMPLOYEES.
This resolution would give eligible employees parental leave at regular pay following the birth of a child. This benefit would run concurrently with family and medical leave (FMLA). If the employee is a mother this resolution would provide 30 consecutive calendar days leave at 100% of their regular straight time pay. Fathers would be eligible for 15 consecutive days leave. At the end of that time, the employee could also be able to use any accrued time off as needed.
Mayor Sheets made a motion to pass resolution 20-10, seconded by M. Sheets. Upon roll call vote two ayes were recorded. Motion passed 2-0.
M. Sheets made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Mayor Sheets. Meeting adjourned at 5:23 PM.
