The City of Frankfort Utilities is looking for skilled journeymen electricians who construct and maintain power circuits, distribution and substations. The qualified applicant will be available for on-call work in addition to regular hours and working under adverse weather conditions. Applicants are required to work in the setting and removing of power poles. Additionally, they will install, remove, inspect repair and perform maintenance on transformers that have several different types of connections, crossarms, wire, insulators, lightning arrestors, capacitors, oil reclosures, guy wires, voltage regulators, ground rods, switches fuses, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
High school education or equivalent required. Knowledge and familiarity with principles and practices of electric power line construction and maintenance (including electrical substations) required. Strong verbal communications skills necessary in order to deal with a wide range of personalities both inside and outside the organization. Able to make informed immediate decisions in emergency or highly stressful situations. Must qualify for and maintain a valid Indiana CDL driver’s license.
• The physical activity expected is balancing, stooping, crawling, climbing, kneeling, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, talking, and repetitive motions.
• Must be physically, mentally and psychologically able to perform all of the required duties. Position requires physical strength, finger and limb dexterity, and mobility.
• Must have ability to climb poles and to work poles or in an aerial lift at various heights.
• Must be able to lift weights of up to 90 pounds.
The minimum working conditions require the employee to work both inside and outside, exposed to noise and adverse atmospheric and environmental conditions.
