Invitation to public art unveiling November 30

To my fellow Frankfort residents,

On behalf of the members of the Frankfort Future Leaders Advisory Council, you are invited to the unveiling of Frankfort’s first major piece of public art in our downtown! I hope you can join us at noon this Thursday, November 30 on the south side of Clinton Street between Pepe’s Restaurant and The Farmers Bank for this special event.

The young, talented, dedicated members of our FFLAC have been working with me the past several months studying Frankfort’s history as the Gem City to incorporate our community’s rich background into the design of the sculpture.

With funding from the City Council and a generous donation by officials at NTK Precision Axle, this beautiful sculpture captures the essence of Frankfort. Our thanks to our City Councilors and NTK’s leadership for their commitment to and great assistance with the FFLAC’s downtown art project. Made of fabricated metal and created by Lafayette sculpture artist Ben Sutter who has ties to Clinton County, this new piece of art will set a celebratory tone for public art in our downtown.

Ben also created the two gateway signs that welcome people at the north and south entry points into Frankfort. In addition, he worked with our FFLAC members to create the unique Hot Dog bench we unveiled at last year’s Hot Dog Festival.

Public art is a planned piece of our overall downtown revitalization strategy, so I am pleased and excited to unveil the sculpture in the heart of our community. I am equally proud to partner with the caring, committed FFLAC members who have worked very hard to make this unique artwork a reality. Their interest in and dedication to improving and beautifying our downtown – and our entire community – is inspiring. These young leaders truly are the future of Frankfort.

I look forward to seeing you at the brief ceremony and unveiling at noon on Thursday!

Warm regards,

Mayor Chris McBarnes
