Denny Shirar Day – June 14, 2013

Denny Shirar Day in Frankfort

WHEREAS, Denny Shirar began working for the City of Frankfort Wastewater Treatment Plant on October 31, 1975 and has served as superintendent since March 17, 1992; and,

WHEREAS, Denny directed the installation of the Jefferson and Clinton Prairie School sewer line, along with the Armstrong Road project and the Walmart lift station; and,

WHEREAS, under Denny’s leadership, a new lift station was constructed on State Road 28 to accommodate the Jefferson lift station. Denny also was instrumental in the construction of the 200 West lift station to accommodate the 200 West road project; and,

WHEREAS, Denny organized the 2010 rehabilitation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant as well as spearheading Frankfort’s stormwater initiative; and,

WHEREAS, Denny started the fat trapper program designed to keep household grease out of the City’s sewer lines, saving approximately $10,000 – $15,000 a year on repairs to the system; and,

WHEREAS, Denny created and implemented the plan to build a new pole barn using scrap steel that resulted in no cost to the City’s utilities; and,

WHEREAS, during his tenure at the helm of the Wastewater Plant Denny hired all current employees with the exception of one and served as a knowledgeable, caring leader for the staff throughout the years; and,

WHEREAS, throughout his nearly four decades as a public servant, Denny consistently demonstrated strength of character, integrity, perseverance and a commitment to excellence;

NOW THEREFORE, I, Chris McBarnes, in recognition of Denny’s 38 years of dedicated service to Frankfort’s Wastewater Treatment Plant with 22 of them as superintendent, do hereby proclaim Friday, June 14, 2013 as

DENNY SHIRAR DAY
